”I have been sending my career change clients to Alison for years because of her natural ability to create structure and clarity around such a confusing, frustrating, vague and ambiguous process as career change. Career Grease is, to me, a career change bible. Carve out a space on your shelf next to What Color is Your Parachute. This book is equally helpful (and not nearly as long)!”
- Laura M. Labovich, coauthor of 100 Conversations for Career Success

"Just like Kennedy’s bold and prescient assertion in 1961 that Americans would get to the moon and safely back within the decade, Career Grease is infused with a can-do attitude and just-do-it ethos. But Alison Cardy doesn’t stop at helping readers set lofty goals and build confidence necessary to take action. She also offers practical advice, relevant examples, step-by-step instructions, and a supplementary e-course that will put you on the trajectory of feeling over the moon about your new career direction."
–Christine Clapp, Coauthor of Presenting at Work

Career Grease How to Get Unstuck and Pivot Your Career eBook Alison Cardy

I did not like this book because I found the advice is bland and uninspiring. The flow is boring where I found myself rushing to the good stuff which never really came. Moreover, this book was written in a series of boring client anecdotal stories about what happened to the Writer during life events. I just could not get into or feel compelled by much in this eBook.

unfortunately, I found nothing unique within the pages and about half way through found myself flipping through the book trying to identify something worth my time.

I also found the majority of the reviews were posted in march 14, 2016 which is not good sign of objectives reviews.

In short, save your money for better ebooks.

Career Grease How to Get Unstuck and Pivot Your Career eBook Alison Cardy Reviews

I received an advance copy of Alison Cardy's new book. “Career Grease” is a valuable guidebook for anyone who wants to make a career change but feels stuck. Alison Cardy understands that we can be our own worst enemies at times. We have ideas only to quickly talk ourselves out of them. We contemplate a career change for months or years without making any moves. It can be frustrating and ultimately paralyzing. But Cardy is here to tell us that that behavior is not only normal, it’s very fixable. In clear, nonjudgmental steps, she lays out the tools to put us on the right path. The book is part narrative and part workbook, with exercises designed to guide help readers think through their own decisions. Cardy knows the right questions to ask and the most useful way to think through them. I highly recommend the book for people in any stage of their career who want to make a change but don't know how to go about it.
I'm a 32 year old who has worked at the same company for the last decade. I received an advance copy of this book for free and reading it was more out of curiosity than from a real desire to alter my career. This is a review from the perspective of someone who is pretty content with his career.

Career Grease is targeted towards an individual who is willing to make a long term effort towards advancing their careers (not necessarily in a financial sense). An open mind and willingness to work are absolutely necessary to see results and the book doesn't try to hide this. Rather, the book helps channel one's drive into productive actions. Each chapter begins with a brief story about an actual client of the author's. Then obstacles, lessons and pitfalls are identified. Finally, exercises are given which help the reader apply the chapter's core principles to his/her own situation. The author recommends some of her personal coaching programs at various points in the book for those who feel they could benefit from more tailored guidance.

There were of couple of areas I found particularly enlightening. First, the book does a great job articulating the different axes that comprise career satisfaction. I'm much more aware of why I'm happy with my current job now. Second, in addition to giving suggestions on moving forward, the book also identifies practices/thoughts that have limited utility and should either be avoided or not overly dwelt upon. For example, the book cautions against needing to have a clear picture of the end goal before taking action. Simply taking a few steps can often make the rest of the path clearer. I very much agree with this advice.

I was pleasantly surprised to discover a chapter where the author describes navigating through her own career path. I have to imagine that becoming a career counselor is not an easy task and successfully attaining such a position instilled me with confidence in her advice and her abilities.

Unfortunately, I haven't read too many books on career improvement so I can't give Career Grease a fair comparison to other books. I will just say I read the entire book and came away with the impression that Ms. Cardy is both capable of and invested in helping others advance their careers.
The name of this book really got my attention when I first happened upon it. Like most people, I find myslef thinking about the next stage in my career as I know that I will have to move on sooner or later. Changing jobs, and hopefully getting a better position, every few years has pretty much become the norm in our society. Gone are the days when you can find a job and stick with it for the better part of you working days. Sure they exist, but they are rare.

Alison presents 12 different case studies to help illustrate her methods and recommends exercises for you to do. A lot of the folks whose stories she shares had been going through some real struggles. Even if you are doing well but are looking for a change, then this book can still help you out. You can use the information to help make an informed decsion before you get to the point of being "stuck" and in real need of some coaching.

Some of the best information in this book deals with belief systems and how people limit themselves with their negative thoughts. Sometimes these beliefs can be so bad that they stop you before you even took the first step. Alison shows exercises you can do to combat this. Interestingly, Alison challenges the whole belief that you can "wish" good things or jobs to magically come to you. She talks about what you should do instead. This is a very well-written book with lots of good information and exercises. If you feel at all stuck or know someone who is, this is a good book to read.
I received an advance copy of Alison Cardy's new book. “Career Grease” is a fantastic resource for three reasons

1. It's accessible. Easy to read, digest, and apply, it takes potentially scary or uncomfortable situations and breaks them down with clear language into specific, manageable actions.

2. It's practical. It meets you where you are. Alison's use of real world scenarios throughout the book allow you to clearly understand how her methods work. Whether you want to completely change careers, or deal with unsettling thoughts, she has an example for how to deal with a range of scenarios you may encounter during your job search.

3. It's kind, funny, and insightful. Dealing with work can be stressful and scary. Alison provides empathy and compassion. Which actually might be the most helpful tool of all.
