This book is in line with the United States Common Core Mathematics Initiative for Grades K-2. It includes objectives such as number decomposition, using place value to add and subtract, and other methods to help young children build number sense and learn how to add and subtract without finger counting. It is an excellent complement to the conceptual and procedural approach to the new curriculum and slowly builds concepts in small developmental steps while also factoring in constant review.

We recently purchased this book for our first grader to reinforce maths skills at home. While the grade level is accurate, there is way too much focus on coin counting (US currency). We live outside of the United States and do not want to introduce an entirely new currency to our child in an abstract form. I have no US coins to use with my child as examples, and why would I want to teach him a new currency, anyway? While this book may be good to reinforce maths skills for children in grades K to 2 who live in the United States, I would not recommend it to anyone outside of the United States. I am disappointed with this purchase.Product details

This book brought learning math skills at a young age easy and fun. My child understood concepts more easily than what was taught in the classroom. For those who understand the classroom lesson, this is a great reinforcement. Dr Gregorio understands the needs of learning math. I had such a hard time when I was young that I was determined that my kids would find math interesting and fun. I even learned a few things.
