Legacy begins with Katrina (Kat) Blake’s return to her childhood home after a five year absence. She has come back with the sole intention of reading the letter her estranged grandmother (Rosemarie) left her, before she sells the estate—but it’s not that simple. The letter comes with a journal which promises to unveil all the mysteries surrounding her life which have confounded her for years. She soon realises that the account was not written by Rosemarie but by a man named James Blackburne, and according to him they are related.
James is a four-hundred year old immortal; a balancer. His primary function is to protect the natural world from supernatural entities. In an attempt to connect with Kat, and aid her in her adjustment to her new life, he tells her his life story, starting with his birth in 1625, his death in 1650 as well as his subsequent rebirth as a balancer and the adventures which ensue.
James’s story takes Kat on a journey she never imagined possible. He weaves a gripping tale of life, love, adventure and self-discovery which ensnares her interest and compels her to keep reading, but he does a lot more than that. He reaches across time and space to connect with her in the present, as well as explain the motivations behind her grandmother’s apparent cold dismissal of her when she was a sensitive and fragile girl of eighteen. For Kat this is a precious gift as the emotional wounds their parting inflicted have never really healed.

First of all, I would like to preface this review by saying that this is not intended to be a negative comment. I wish that Amazon had half stars, I would have given this a 3.5. This is a good book and a longer book than most I find for Kindle, so it was nice to read over a weekend when I wasn't feeling particularly great. I love this author's writing style, and the way the characters pop from the pages and come alive. I was impressed with the plot and the way the story had a natural development. The characters don't repeat the same gestures a million times per chapter and every chapter contained something a bit unexpected.I did feel there were portions of this book that were a bit wordy and there were some places in the book where the author chose the wrong form of a word. Thankfully, these were not terribly distracting and didn't pull me from the story much. I appreciate that this is a longer book and must have taken a lot of effort to prepare for publishing.
There are some fantastic quotes and descriptions in this novel, and it has a slightly Gothic feel, which I also enjoyed. I would recommend this book to other readers. This is a unique book that could fit into a variety of different genres. If you are looking for something to read that is highly original and has a little bit of a different feel to it, this would be a good book to choose.

I absolutely loved this book. The author created some amazing, well rounded characters that I could not get enough of. I was literally unable to put it down. I am an avid reader and love the depth of the story. I definitely look forward to reading more in this series. Chris Adonn has a new loyal fan in me. Keep up the great work!
This book really grabbed me, I've been hard-put to maintain normal activities since I started reading it! The characters are well fleshed out, I'm totally sympathetic to their plights. Fantastic job Ms. Chris Adonn!! Thank you for opening a wonderful new world for us readers! I'm on to book 2, it feels like my birthday!
I'm not the greatest reviewer. I don't much care about the technical stuff nor do I give a synopsis or rundown on what the book is about, you should probably get that info directly from the little blurb prior to ordering the book. (It's frustrating to read reviews where people insist on writing paragraphs on what the story is about when they could just say whether or not they enjoyed it)
I do know I loved this book. I've not read anything like it to date and find myself excited for the next in the series. My advice, read the blurb. If it sounds like something you might be interested in, if you like 'realistic' mixed with your 'fantasy', then you'll probably enjoy this )
To be honest at first I had a hard time getting into the book with the book in a book. It seemed rather long and boring, however with that said once I started to enjoy the "history" of James and the balancers it became a hard book to put down and I found myself laughing outloud at parts and crying at parts. By the end of the book I was like nooooo I want to read MORE!! I am looking forward to the next book VERY MUCH!!
This is a fantasy with vampires and balancer s, even aliens but it is written so differently that it is fun to read. I couldn't put it down and am not really into vampires, so don't let that stop you from reading it. It is more a story of a grandfather telling his history to a granddaughter; but what a historic story it is! Warning, it will make you cry. This author makes everything so visual and makes you believe you are actually there with Kat as she reads her Legacy. I can't wait to read book 2.
I liked this book a lot. It was very unique. The characters were wonderfully fleshed out. There were a few times it was too detailed for me and I skipped a page, not often though. Anxious to read more.
I loved the characters in this novel. One of the most difficult things to do is to create distinct characters but this author nailed it. I also enjoyed the unique supernatural setting with the balancers and learning about their role in the world. I can't really describe what genre this novel could be classified as, kinda urban fantasy with science fiction, fantasy and romance elements too. The only downside were the frequent spelling and grammatical errors but I was so absorbed in the story that it didn't bother me. Highly recommended. I truly hope the author continues this series.
